Early September Side-Line was informed of a meeting between the Depeche Mode songwriter Martin Gore, Madonna and Stuart Price during Madonna's Re-invention tour. At that meeting Gore was given 2 songs to work on. At the time we had no extra details so decided to give it a rest until we were informed a few days ago by our dear friends at www.DrownedMadonna.com that Madonna had just joined up again with Martin Gore in London. Apparently she was impressed by one of the tracks. Madonna is now going to rewrite some of the lyrics and she will also record some raw vocals for Martin. Officially the info has been dissed as not true but this morning it was confirmed by someone from the Depeche Mode innercircle who stressed "it is not sure whether the tracks Martin wrote will be used, but it looks like Madonna is under the impression of at least one the of the submitted tracks". Still according to this source unless the recording is really used, there will be no official announcement made. Recently Gore has been co-writing music with Claudia Brucken for her OneTwo project and with No Doubt's Gwen Stefani for her debut solo album. Only the track written together with Brucken, "Cloud 9", has been released so far. (You can read an extensive interview with Claudia Brucken on this matter in Side-Line 49, which you can order below.) Madonna is currently also solliciting material from Lamb's Andy Barlow (apparently a track with a trip-hop feeling to it) and Goldfrapp. Also William Orbit is back in the picture for a re-work of an old song holding the working title "Liquid Love". According to a source close to the singer, Madonna has opted for this collaboration approach after her 2003 album "American Life" didn't exactly receive rave reviews. In related news, Michael Colombier, the composer who composed the string arrangements for Madonna on "Die Another Day", "Don't Tell Me" and "Easy Ride" as well as composing the soundtrack for "Swept Away" has died. More news as we get it.
